practicing reading stamina!we love WRITERS workshop!!We are all writers. Even one of our favorite writers/authors, Mo Willems needs feedback and starts at the beginning. We are exploring writing through free writing, it might be stories, chapter books, picture books, comic books, writing is an endless world of possibilities and is often sometime you can do with a partner to share ideas! stem!!Our class was the best class of the day, so Ms. Beam said a STEM award is on its way!!! Way to go Mrs. Sullivan Homeroom!!! She sent me these pictures.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE #1**
On Tuesday, August 14th, we will be hosting 3 identical sessions (4:30-5:00 p.m. & 5:05–5:35 p.m. & 5:40–6:10 p.m.) for curriculum night. Come and get information on second grade, learn about the resources we have to offer, and ask questions in person so you can have all the information to have a successful year! We can't wait to see you tomorrow in Mrs. Monroy's classroom A-59! Important message #2** We have received a lot of feedback that Classroom Messenger has not been successful if you have students in other classes that you joined first, or if you are a teacher that uses it already, you cannot receive the messages in the class. To solve that problem, we are going to be using Class Dojo! I have sent out an email requesting you to join our class to the parents it didn't already automatically join to my class. We won't be using Class Dojo to communicate behavior like you've probably used it in the past, but simply for the wonderful messaging feature that comes with the app. Maybe in the future, especially when we start talking about Money, and the possibility of a using a Dojo Bank makes a great way to practice adding and subtracting "money" in a balance sheet, but for now the clip chart and the calendar is our form of behavior communication. Please still sign that everyday. If your child is not coloring it in, remind them, for you to get the hours in, they need to color it in. We have a short time to color it in (3 minutes after snack) but we still need to color it in! Please also take the time to check my Weebly regularly! Message #3 If you can donate snacks, we would appreciate the donation. Hello!
I meant to post this Friday but the weekend got away from me. Here’s a few pictures from last week. We enjoyed getting to know each other through your brown bags that you brought! Thanks for sharing!! we also enjoyed a guest reader during snack, our very own Nurse Lisa who read to us about having diabetes. For his birthday Issac brought chips and juice to share for a fun snack during snack time. Happy Birthday! It was a great first week, I am SO enjoying your children. We have such a great class and it’s truly been a pleasure teaching them this week. Week 2 homework packets went out today, along with their first spelling list and the spelling routine. Both are due Friday. Let me know if you have any questions. Hello 2nd grade families,
As a school whave received many calls regarding our parent meeting. There will be an AM/PM meeting tomorrow Wednesday August 1st, 2018 about PESD Board meeting that took place on July 26, 2018 public meeting of the Phoenix Elementary School District. Please read the letter sent home with your child today for more details. On another note, I’ve been forgetting to take pictures. But here’s a picture of the wall out front of our classroom. ( I promis I’ll get better with kid pictures) Together we read the book Spaghetti in a Hotdog Bun, and discussed how everyone is special. They wrote down things that made them special on their paper spaghetti noodles and glued it to their own hotdog bun. Hello, Thank you for your flexibility as we get the year up and rolling. Everyone has a binder and went home with a binder today. If your child doesn't like the extra binder I sent home with them, you can always replace it and give it back to me. In the binder you should find the first week's homework packet along with a brown paper bag with instructions on what to put in it. It is just a fun get to know you activity. The end of the day was hectic as we had new schedule, new drop off procedures, and lots of, "I think I'm going here, even though it says I'm going here..." so THANK you for your flexibility and understanding. We were supposed to color in our clip chart today but it just didn't happen with ALL the things that had to be done in the short amount of time. We will color their calendar tomorrow and then you can sign both days in July tomorrow. Spelling didn't go home tonight, although they should have a notebook in there. We are still waiting on some supplies to come in from the office. Hopefully by the end of the week we have up and running homework binders again thank you for your patience. Today was a GREAT day and I am leaving the day feeling so blessed to have received such a great group of kids. Thank you for sharing them with me this year. Thank you for all you do for them, let me know if you have any questions. :) **PICTURE DAY TOMORROW** Mrs. Sullivan Welcome, and please become familiar with my Weebly, you're welcome to explore! It will be my main source of communication, along with SchoolMessenger. I will update it often and post pictures (PLEASE let me know if you have a problem with posting pictures of your child and I will accommodate!!) and information of what's going on in my classroom. Hopefully some of you have already come looking to explore and find out information about the school year! I cannot wait to meet you all at ILPs!
Somethings to consider before school starts: Ease back into scheduled days. When your kids are used to playing until dark each night, changing suddenly to early mornings can be a real shock to any kids system. An idea to ease into the transition of waking up earlier and going to bed earlier, about a week before the first day of school, start their bedtime routine about 10 minutes earlier each night and wake them up 10 minutes earlier each morning, every day, until they’re back on track. If you child is sleepy, it makes it much harder to learn, and they don't get to enjoy morning coffee to wake up like we do! ~smile Scheduling Your ILP. Parents will need to sign up at https://asuprep.schoolsoft.com to schedule their preferred time. If you don't have an account yet, please register now. If you cannot make an account, you may call the front office. I cannot believe this year is over. Your child has become one of “my kids,” and as I've told many of you in person I am having a really hard time letting them go as I feel I have watched them grow up before my eyes. I will miss them so much! I am so proud of them, we have worked so hard this year to be 3rd grade ready. They will rock the socks off of 3rd grade!!
I wish you and your child a wonderful and restful summer break that will refuel and refresh them for the coming school year. It is great to relax and unwind during that time. However, it is common for students to forget some of the things they learned over the summer. For that reason, I give you some simple tips to help prevent that. Try to maintain the learning without making it seem like school work. Keep it simple and fun. Here are some examples:
I hope these tips are beneficial to you and your child. Have a great summer! Don't be a stranger, come visit me next year! Best wishes, Mrs. Sullivan Hello homeroom families and walk-to reading/math families, Just like the last ILP, we will be scheduling ILPs with your reading teacher not your homeroom teacher. Click on the link and click your second grader's reading teacher's name. https://asuprep.schoolsoft.com. ILPs might be canceled on Thursday and Friday, please contact your child's reading teacher to set up an alternative ILP if you cannot schedule an ILP Wednesday. See attached letter at the bottom of this post that was emailed home to families regarding the Red for Ed teacher walk out and how it affects ILPs. To my reading/math families regarding ILPs: I would love to meet face to face with each one of you, however due to the teacher walk out and teacher PD Wednesday morning, I fear this might be more difficult than normal. If you would like to schedule a face to face ILP with me during the originally scheduled time and chance that there is no walk out on Thursday or Friday (your better bet is Friday, I have a strong feeling that Thursday the school will be closed), you may still schedule a face to face ILP. However, I am also available for face to face ILPs the following week after school, before school, phone conference, email exchange, you name it. I am flexible, especially since my semester for my masters program is ending Wednesday (which is why my day is cut off at 4:00). Also, if you do not have any pressing concerns, questions, or comments, I kindly ask that might try and schedule an alternative ILP with me so the few face to faces I have available on Wednesday can be available to those with pressing concerns. If you would like to schedule an alternative ILP with me, please email me at [email protected] so we can set up a time either in person, before or after school or over the phone. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility! You all rock! Thanks for an AMAZING year. PS: Your child is telling you correctly, there is no spelling homework this week since it's a two day week. Week 2 of Spelling will resume next week. :)
