Friendship Day on February 14th!!!on Wednesday, February 14th we are having a small Friendship Day celebration. We will have several learning activities designed around the theme of Friendship Day. We will be enjoying a card exchange at the end of the school day. If your child chooses to participate in the card exchange, he or she must have enough cards for every student in the class. We have 25 students in our class. A list of names went home with your child, but if you need another list of names please let me know. The cards can be homemade or store-bought. Please be certain that your child writes the names of the students and signed the cards at home. Please do not have them make cards in class, as we will be doing other academic activities.
Just to be clear we will not be having a party. We will only be having class activities that are related to building friendships. Thank you so much. As always, if you have any comments, questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Mrs. Sullivan Hello!

Wow what a crazy couple weeks. I told myself I'd update this more and here it is time has passed. Since the last post, I have started my masters! I take classes twice a week at the downtown campus until 8:00 at night. It's a crazy long schedule but I'm learning so much, especially in teaching writing. This semester I'll get to publish a book! By the end I will be qualified to be a reading specialist if I wanted. It's awesome to apply all that I'm learning right away with all your kids. I love that we get to be students together. They see me with my backpack and they know I have homework too. It's important to me to show that we never stop learning. Everyday I learn so much from your children and I'm so blessed you share them with me. Homework! Speaking of! I collected the August calendars and will be giving hours to those diligent in signing student planners. Way to go!!. Oh and speaking of hours, if you have dontanted a snack, would you mind shooting me a quick email ([email protected]) or a text over remind so I can make sure you get your hours for your donation! Thanks too, to all those that have donated snack! So far the big tub of goldfish has lasted the longest as I can ration it out. Thanks! Please remember to send your child with a snack, that also helps with running out of snack. Now back to the topic of homework! I handed out a new calendar for September, it has the ILP dates on it if you're curious. Please sign it every day so you can get your hours at the end of the month! Please make sure your child is bringing their homework binder to school every day and that they are doing homework every night. Effort grades are given in regards to homework. It's important they go home and practice the skills they learned that same day. Thanks for your support in this matter. Pictures went home today along with a second chance ordering card if you would like to order pictures. Please make sure your child is getting to bed on time and that they are practicing healthy habits like washing their hands. Germs are going around and it's important we all stay well. (Take note of the notice that went home about a week ago about the hand foot and mouth virus being in second grade. Please wash your hands!!) As a homeroom we earned super snack last Friday as we filled our marble jar!! Yay everyone!! We had a popsicle party. Let's do it again shall we? Keep it up. All for now let's keep making this a great year. Thanks to all of you for all that you do. Much love, Mrs. Sullivan Today we practiced how to rotate in Math Centers. We played a fun game that you all can play at home too! All you need are 2 sets of index cards with the numbers 1-10 on them or a deck of cards with the Jack, King, and Queen taken out (Ace counts as 1).
It's called Fact Fluency War. 1. Separate into two even decks. 2. With your deck facing down, each player flips over the top card to reveal a number. 3. Quickly add the two numbers together. 4. Whoever says the answer first wins the cards. 5. The winner places their cards at the bottom of their deck. 6. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the time wins OR whoever gets all the cards into their deck wins. Enjoy the pictures I took of them playing. |
