My dear 2nd grade families, Words cannot even begin to express what a privilege it was teaching your children this year. I have not gotten so close to a group of kids so quickly. We quickly became a little family, so close in fact that it spurred on a wave of tears during our picture slide show. Instead of the memories making them happy like I thought, they expressed being sad to leave 2nd grade and honestly that’s how I feel too. These kiddos will ALWAYS have such a special place in my heart and I cannot believe the year is over. I’m not quite ready to see them go, which I guess is a good thing. They have taught me so much and I feel like I am a better educator because of them. Not only has it been a privilege teaching your children, but I have so enjoyed getting to know each of you. Please keep in touch. I would love to receive pictures of their summer adventures. I cannot thank you all enough for everything you did for our classroom this year. I feel my words cannot simply express how thankful I am for you all, this has been a fantastic year. Have a wonderful summer!! Warmly, Mrs. Sullivan Summer Homework: -Math Review Packet available for download here (see downloadable file below). They received a print out which they started in class the other day but if it was conveniently lost you may print it out! -Dreambox will be active all summer!! Please try to keep up the momentum of 5 lessons a week. -Read 20 min every day. I cannot stress this enough. And read with your child. This is SO important so you make sure they’re reading accurately, and are actually reading not just looking like they’re reading for 20 min. 😉 They will be tested on DIBBLES again at the beginning of the year and it’s so important they read during the summer so they don’t drastically drop. They’re at a crucial age, they must be reading!!! Beach Day: THANK YOU for all your help that made this day possible. We had an absolute blast. I transformed the room into a beach and we laid out on our beach towels and read and did beach theamed activities. It was so cool to see their faces as they walked into the room. They were so delighted and it made my whole year. We filled in a memory book, played some games, and made an edible craft. We had a delicious picnic at the beach (I would like to commend you all on what you all brought. We had a great variety, it wasn’t all sugar which I appreciate. It was the perfect balance. We had just the right amount of sweets and healthy!) and watched a memory slideshow of all the great things we did this year. I will try and figure out if I can upload the slideshow here....it’s about 25 min worth of pictures...we’ve done so much this year. For now here’s a mini slideshow of our “Day at the Beach.” Thank you again for all your help.

Hello, With the Reindeer Run at the end of the day, we didn't get the Winter Break Homework Passed out. Here is the digital copy for you to print. Send me a message on Dojo if you have any questions. I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Break! It has been a wonderful year, I am so thankful for everything you all do for our classroom.
Thank you to all of you who came out and saw the projects. To those of you who couldn’t, I tried to get a picture of everyone so you could see your child and their project. Everyone sure did a really good job, I’m really proud of everyone and all the hard work they did. Thanks again for your support in this project, we had a lot of fun researching and learning about what animals need to survive! In reading, we’ve been finding text evidence and making inferences about information that we have read. Today they rocked the socks of fighting text evidence as they work together in groups to pull the information from text. This is a skill we’ve been using on Epic to write our reports.
I couldn’t take pictures but one of the aids did!! These are the ones she got of my class. It was an eventful day. Thanks for all your support. The time for pledges has been extended a week! So we can still earn prizes on our pledge-o-meter! We just earned crazy hair day for Thursday 11/8!! Today we got to have a picnic outside for lunch! Thank you for all you do for our school! Here is a picture of the handout sent home today.
They will be using non fiction books on Epic to do research! You can help them get ahead if you’d like and search the animal they pick on Epic and even read a few books together! That could be their 20 min of reading. Remeber how to get on Epic is under the tab 2nd grade and educational links. There is a page with all their logins. Remember, like I said at ILPs, my email is conveniently there for a reason. ;) Here is the diorama definition from Google. di·o·ram·anoun
If you google diorama there’s some great picture ideas online. They can be made out of a shoe box, pizza box, any box/open faced cotsiner, please make sure it fits on their desk, try not to do something that would take up more than one of their desks but big enough of coarse that it’s easy for the viewer to see the display Message me on Dojo for questions. Parents,
Our class is having a blast preparing for the ASU PREP Fun Run ( Pre K-5th) coming up soon! We've also begun to learn how to solve problems using character through Boosterthon's character theme, MindSpark Mystery Lab. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, your students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world. Make sure to ask your students what they've learned each day, and together you can watch the story unfold on funrun.com! Today, our goal is just to get everyone logged on to funrun.com. You don't have to purchase anything, all you have to do is simply register your student. You doing that gets your child a prize AND the class with the highest percentage of students registered on funrun.com, gets extra recess!!! So even if you don't plan on making a pledge, I really DO encourage you to at least register so my class can earn this fun incentive at no cost to you! Thank you so much for taking the time to register!! My kiddos sure would enjoy a well deserved extra recess! Remember, we need your help connecting to sponsors who can make a pledge to help our school! Please make sure all pledges for the ASU PREP Fun Run ( Pre K-5th) are entered on funrun.com. The more pledges we get, the more incentives our class earns on our Pledge-O-Meter. Thank you for your generosity and support of our school. If you have any questions, please let me know. Have a great day! P.S. Make sure to register your child on funrun.com.
No masks or full face paint No fake weapons Costumes must allow you to participate in class without hindrance Costumes must be related to a book Please remember to keep it school appropriate Please keep it simple...Thanks! Extra info: They can wear the costume all day. The character parade will be at the end of the day, I believe the time is set for 2:30 but I will send out another message confirming the time if you’d like to attend. All students will be walking in the parade. Costume is not required. Remember it can be super simple! If you’re Pete the cat wear cat ears and tape buttons to a yellow shirt. Please do not feel like this has to be crazy elaborate. This is just a way we can have a little fun during the the holidays yet keep it educational! Next week for homework their will be spelling, but no packet. Instead there will be activities related to the character they picked. Brainstorm ideas for your character this weekend. We’ve been learning a lot about characters and the life lessons they’ve learned. We’ve been writing personal narratives about problems we’ve faced and overcome and the life lessons we’ve learned. It’s fitting that Halloween is this time during this Unit if study! Message or email me if you have any questions! 🤗 |
