Today we practiced how to rotate in Math Centers. We played a fun game that you all can play at home too! All you need are 2 sets of index cards with the numbers 1-10 on them or a deck of cards with the Jack, King, and Queen taken out (Ace counts as 1).
It's called Fact Fluency War. 1. Separate into two even decks. 2. With your deck facing down, each player flips over the top card to reveal a number. 3. Quickly add the two numbers together. 4. Whoever says the answer first wins the cards. 5. The winner places their cards at the bottom of their deck. 6. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the time wins OR whoever gets all the cards into their deck wins. Enjoy the pictures I took of them playing.

This week is our first week of walk to reading and math and we are practicing improving our stamina to become independent readers. Here we are practicing reading to self. We read to self because it makes us better readers and it is fun! Remember to use the I PICK to help your child pick a right fit book. For a better explanation of I PICK and the 5 finger rule, see my reading resources page! Click on the button below to take you to my calendar where important upcoming dates are coming up, such as Open House on August 15th!!
There has been a change in our testing dates! Due to some issues with the benchmark site, they have moved the test back a week. We will now test Monday, August 14th and Tuesday, August 15th. Whew, we still have a week to learn how to use an iPad, haha. ;)
We need HEadphones!
Homework!Your child should have math, reading and spelling homework that they are responsible for this week. All last week we practiced writing it down, showed them how to do their spelling, and made exceptions if they didn't understand something. This week, the grace period is over and they will start missing recess if they don't do their homework or get their planner signed. Speaking of which, they should also be putting a happy face, sad face, or straight face on their behavior log that should be signed by you every night. Homework is important and it's important you are checking in with your child and helping them grow in these areas that they are practicing each night. benchmark testingPicture DayPicture day is this Thursday, August 10th!!! They still must wear their uniform, but if you wanted to make sure their hair was done just so, I'm giving you this heads up! Picking Up and Dismissal
