This week is our first week of walk to reading and math and we are practicing improving our stamina to become independent readers. Here we are practicing reading to self. We read to self because it makes us better readers and it is fun! Remember to use the I PICK to help your child pick a right fit book. For a better explanation of I PICK and the 5 finger rule, see my reading resources page!

Click on the button below to take you to my calendar where important upcoming dates are coming up, such as Open House on August 15th!!
There has been a change in our testing dates! Due to some issues with the benchmark site, they have moved the test back a week. We will now test Monday, August 14th and Tuesday, August 15th. Whew, we still have a week to learn how to use an iPad, haha. ;)
We need HEadphones!
Homework!Your child should have math, reading and spelling homework that they are responsible for this week. All last week we practiced writing it down, showed them how to do their spelling, and made exceptions if they didn't understand something. This week, the grace period is over and they will start missing recess if they don't do their homework or get their planner signed. Speaking of which, they should also be putting a happy face, sad face, or straight face on their behavior log that should be signed by you every night. Homework is important and it's important you are checking in with your child and helping them grow in these areas that they are practicing each night. benchmark testingPicture DayPicture day is this Thursday, August 10th!!! They still must wear their uniform, but if you wanted to make sure their hair was done just so, I'm giving you this heads up! Picking Up and Dismissal
ASU Prep NewsletterPlease make sure you are reading the newsletter as it has a lot of information and upcoming dates. Walk ToWe started walk to reading and math this week. -Mrs. Sullivan Hello,
Tomorrow is the first day of school. We all are probably experiencing some first day jitters at this point of the evening, but after meeting you all at ILPs, I'm stoked to begin the year. I will be picking everyone up at 8:15 on the basketball courts. We will then make our way back to the classroom. If you arrive later than 8:15, your child can go straight to our classroom, A-58. Just some important reminders to keep in mind: Lunch To make sure your child has funding in their lunch account, please see the newsletter sent out this week for important information on how to complete the lunch form (it must be completed every year) and how to deposit funds directly into your child's account so they can always get lunch! It's important our kiddos are healthy and fed so they can focus in school and the rest of the afternoon. School Picture Day: Save the date! August 10th is Picture Day for 2nd Grade! Pick Up & Drop Off: Student supervision begins and ends at 7:45am - 4:00 pm. Please ensure you have made arrangements for your child to be there only during those supervised times. Newsletter:' Please read the ASU Prep Newsletter as it keeps everyone up to date on important information. If you're not receiving the newsletter, please let me know! As always, never hesitate to contact me if you have any questions comments or concerns. -Mrs. Sullivan Welcome, and please become familiar with my Weebly, you're welcome to explore! It will be my mail source of communication. I will update it often and post pictures and information of what's going on in my classroom. Hopefully some of you have already come looking to explore and find out information about the school year! I cannot wait to meet you all at ILPs!
Somethings to consider before school starts: Ease back into scheduled days. When your kids are used to playing until dark each night, changing suddenly to early mornings can be a real shock to any kids system. An idea to ease into the transition of waking up earlier and going to bed earlier, about a week before the first day of school, start their bedtime routine about 10 minutes earlier each night and wake them up 10 minutes earlier each morning, every day, until they’re back on track. If you child is sleepy, it makes it much harder to learn, and they don't get to enjoy morning coffee to wake up like we do! ~smile Scheduling Your ILP. Parents will need to sign up at https://asuprep.schoolsoft.com to schedule their preferred time. If you don't have an account yet, please register now. If you cannot make an account, you may call the front office. |
